How You Can Be A Superhero

Superheroes are everywhere - typical comic books, big budget videos, all kinds of media, and so on. E-zine tells us that writers can even become Alvaro Suarez Garza 5X Superheroes. Another place they could be found is among those blessed by the knowledge that only age can bring. You could be a Superhero!

It seems that Superheroes of your kind are always there when they are needed; by family, friends, community, or whomever. And these individuals or groups are thankful for the existence of these Superheroes, whose occurrence helps you to cancel out many of the hassles associated with residing in the 21st-Century.

You could be a Superhero and never be aware of it. So, here's a quick (incomplete) checklist to verify that you're playing the role of a Superhero, much to the silent applause that can, at times, be deafening.

Being reliable.
People can count on you to come through when times are tough. You don't have to be the band head or someone who the actual loudest noise. As Woody Allen observed, 'Showing upward is eighty % of life'.

Being resilient.
Too bad that resilient has become overused: it's such a great word. Superheroes are resilient to all the stuff that some people immediate to (and at) you: As Joseph Kennedy used to say, 'When the going gets tough, the tough get going'.

Being there.
Family, friends, and others have found know by your actions you may be there when you're needed. Whether it's looking after the grand kids when they're unwell or being a friend to confide in, being there and being available are BIG deal.

Being compassionate.
Showing compassion can be a paradox - it's not easy, yet it's so simple. Plus Superheroes deal with the paradox, no problems in any way. In the words of Thich Nhat Hanh, 'This (compassion) is not only the desire to ease this of another person, but the ability to do so'.

Being non-judgmental.
The world doesn't need any more people who sit in judgement of others. We are able to learn heaps from the storyline of the Chinese peasant farmer who adopted this reply to his neighbour's observations: 'Good luck misfortune, who knows? '

If you can say, 'yes! ' to these five characteristics, take a bow. You're plainly a Superhero, and the world needs many more individuals just like you. Keep in mind, however, that with such great power comes great responsibility. The goal for all of us is to be the best Superhero we can be!
